Sow biennials

Water early potatoes if the weather is dry

Open all vents and doors early each day

Remove moss from lawns

Divide flag irises

Prune cordon gooseberry plants

Pot on rooted cuttings

Trim box edging and privet hedges

Feed baskets and patio pots each week with liquid fertiliser

Sow outside: lettuces, radishes, spring cabbages, endives, kohl rabi, French and runner beans, spinach, turnips and beetroot

Introduce natural predators to control pests such as red spider mite, whitefly and mealy bug

Remove suckers growing around trees

Take cuttings from climbers

Pick off damaged fruits from apples and pears

Ensure growing bags never dry out

Deadhead lilac and rhododendrons

Pinch out the tips of chrysanthemum shoots to encourage flowers

Plant out sweetcorn and other crops raised under glass

Take cuttings from bedding plants and houseplants

Keep an eye out for pests and treat immediately
