Globe Artichoke

Thistle-like plant which grows to 4ft high. Silvery leaves. Flower heads are picked before they bloom. Lives for about four years but suckers can be used to propagate new plants. Raising from seed is not advisable. Not easy to grow and requires a lot of space.
Mid March to end of April	April	A light soil is required in a sunny sheltered location. Good drainage essential.	36 inches apart and 36 inches between rows	July to mid October	Will keep in a food bag in the fridge for up to a week	Cut off stalk. Remove outer layer of scales. Wash. Boil in salted water for 3-40 mins. Remove each scale and dip the base into sauce.
