Choose a sheltered, sunny spot. Plant bare-rooted
canes in November or December. Dig a trench about 12 to 18 inches
wide and 3 inches deep. Spread out the roots. Replace the soil
ensuring the old soil mark is level with the surface. Cut the stem
back to a bud about 1 ft above soil level. Water well.
Container-grown plants can be planted at any time. |
During October or November lift a sucker and cut away
from the parent plant. Plant on. |
New plants: cut down old canes in spring when new
growth appears. Established Summer varieties: after fruiting cut
down all fruited canes and keep 6-9 un-fruited canes. Established
Autumn varieties: cut down all canes to ground level in February.
